Sometimes overcoming a problem requires simple thinking than overacting

Balikuddembe Joseph was like a son to my father. When he was young and the church was small, my father guided him. He even helped Joseph start a new congregation in another village. Joseph listened, rose up, and became an overseer of many local churches. We trusted him. On June 8, 2017, my father — Ngayabalezi Gabriel — died. We were raw with grief. Before we even finished planning the burial, Joseph came to our home. He sent word to my mother asking for the church land agreement books. Broken and confused, my mother gave me two notebooks with the church papers. I was young, grieving, and I trusted Joseph as a pastor — so I handed the notebooks to him. After the funeral I went back to school and tried to keep living. For years nothing more was said about those papers. Then, in 2022, Richard — a faithful helper of my father — died suddenly in a motorcycle accident. After Richard’s death, Joseph began to spread a terrible story: he said our church was cursed, that it “killed” its leaders. Fear spread. People left. Some joined Joseph’s church. Others stopped coming at all. By early 2023 our church had closed. Then Joseph tried to sell the building. He told people my father had given him the documents. That was a lie. I remembered giving him the notebooks in 2017. When I asked for them back, he brought fake papers and refused to return the real ones. I took him to the local council and asked him to hand over the original books. He failed. He showed a coldness I never expected. Since 2023 I have asked peacefully for the papers. I sent local leaders to speak with him. Still nothing. I haven’t taken him to court. Today marks eight years since my father’s last breath. It has been three years since our church closed. Tonight I dreamed of Joseph — and of a strange pattern of four energies — and woke with a heavy heart. I came back to my hometown on May 8, 2025. I brought my mother’s relatives, people who had been disconnected for years. They stayed a week. I began clearing the bush around the closed church. The Balikuddembe family spread the lie that our church “kills” people. Angry crowds almost stoned our house. I have carried a guilt I did not earn. I tried to protect my family and my people. I took Joseph to the police to force him to return the church agreement. He finally returned the originals on June 17, 2025. But the damage stayed. The Balikuddembe family still shouts my name, calls for my death, and tells everyone I am cursed. I feel watched and accused, though I am innocent. I have thought of leaving, but something stronger keeps me here — my father’s memory, my faith, and the belief that this place is my home. I am asking now for help. I want justice. I want my father’s name to be cleared. I want to reopen the church — to call it Holy Souls City — and to launch GoforusNet and GCM properly, as I always dreamed.
